At our church Youth Group on wednesday Seth and I were leading a bible study on “words in red’.Which is a study on the words spoken by Jesus. Each group had to read the gospel they were given, red the passages with red words and write down the thoughts/commandments behind those words. Just as a side note, its s SUPER interesting study to do!
Anyway, My group had the gospel of John. So we set about looking it up in our bibles and talking about what we thought we would find. We turn it up and begin. And what we found was an such an awesome gem!
The first “words in red” recorded in John are these.
“What are you seeking?”
Wow. Way to cut to the core. Way to just get straight to the point. I LOVE how Jesus does this!
Well something about those words just resonated with me, and I found myself asking what am I seeking? And WHO am I seeking? Is it Jesus?
It is SO easy to place things above Seeking Jesus. So easy to seek money, fame and success more than our Lord. Easy to put work, family, ourselves and the things of this world above Him. And I catch myself doing that SO often. Im not going to lie, some days its SO hard to keep seeking, and keep holding on and keep trusting. But right as I was thinking this I found the next amazing thing in John. And its this..
Over SIX times in the first six chapters Jesus promises eternal life. SIX times in those first chapters. That is amazing. And that tell me that this is an important thing. This is a BIG thing.
So what is the reward for seeking Jesus? For loving him? For putting my trust in him?
And how do I know that? Well, He tell me so.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have ETERNAL LIFE. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be SAVED through Him. ”
Wow. Thank you Jesus. May I always be seeking you.
